Lawmakers who wanted $15k Fines for gatherings break with Murphy on Vaccine Passports

TOMS RIVER, NJ – New Jersey Assmblyman Gregory P. McGuckin is up for re-election and has signaled he is breaking with Governor Phil Murphy’s lockdown agenda. Last year, you might remember, the hulking legislator introduced legislation that sought to fine Ocean County residents and beyond $15,000 for violating Murphy’s stay-at-home order and anti-gathering executive order.

Now, facing a tough Republican Primary election against his opponent, Toms River Republican Club President Geri Ambrosio, McGuckin is breaking ties with the Murphy agenda he once supported.

McGuckin says now, that he is against COVID-19 passports, although he was a staunch supporter of Murphy’s law against family and religious gatherings.

“There must be a stronger penalty for violating the social distancing orders during this outbreak,” said Assemblyman McGuckin. “The strong financial penalties that would be imposed by our legislation should discourage people from hosting gatherings in violation of the prohibition during this crisis.”

After trying to impose government restrictions and a hefty fine last year, McGuckin now wants voters to forget his own overreaching government power grab in 2020.

“We don’t think our state government should threaten or allow for personal freedoms to be restricted based on vaccination status,” said McGuckin. “Requiring vaccine passports to engage in everyday activities would be discriminatory and raise a host of serious constitutional and privacy concerns. This fatally flawed idea needs to be nipped in the bud.”

So does a politician with 30 public jobs earning over $4,000,000 per year on the public dime.
