Port Allen – Shortly before 7:30 pm on July 31st, 2021, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle serious injury crash on US Hwy 190 at the intersection of LA Hwy 1145 (Calumet Road) in West Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 33-year-old James Brogdon of Leesville.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as 47-year-old Gary Taylor of Baton Rouge was traveling eastbound on US Hwy 190 in a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. At the same time, Brogdon was traveling westbound on US Hwy 190 in a 2011 Ford Fusion. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet ran off the roadway to the left and crossed the median. Brogdon was properly restrained at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. On August 4th, 2021, Troop A was notified that Brogdon succumbed to his injuries. Taylor was also properly restrained at the time of the crash and sustained moderate injuries. He was also transported to a local hospital for treatment. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.
