Egg harbor township man charged for stalking after victim finds tracking device on car

Cape May Court House, New Jersey – Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Chief of Detectives Paul Skill announce the arrest of Jacob M. Harris, a 32-year-old resident of the Egg Harbor Township and police officer for the Ocean City Police Department.

On January 26th, 2022, the Lower Township Police Department was called to a residence for a report of a tracking device found on a vehicle. Further investigation revealed this device was connected to Jacob Harris. This incident was investigated by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Unit.

On January 27, 2022, as a result of this investigation, Harris was charged with one count of stalking, a crime of the fourth degree.* On this same date, Harris was arrested without incident and later released on a summons pending Court proceedings. Harris is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of his criminal proceedings.

An individual convicted of a fourth-degree crime can be sentenced to up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.
