NORTH TONAWANDA, NY – A woman has been arrested after her child was found home alone during a 911 call responded to by police on Wednesday.
North Tonawanda Police Department officers responded to a structure fire on Miller Street on Wednesday at 12:11 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers observed smoke and an active fire in the kitchen.
Concerned that a child might be inside the home due to hearing a television playing a child’s cartoon, officers forced the door open but could not enter due to the smoke. Officers eventually entered through a side door and extinguished the stove fire.
Lt. Richard Wydysh discovered a small child hiding near a pile of clothing behind the front door and immediately took the child outside for medical attention.
The child’s mother, 24-year-old Jaysa Morrison, was contacted and arrived home shortly after.
After an investigation, it was determined that Morrison had left the 2-year-old child home unattended. Morrison was placed under arrest and is facing charges including endangering the welfare of a child. Due to the ongoing investigation, no further details will be released at this time.
