NEW YORK CITY, NY – On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, Angel Florian, a 22-year-old man from Patterson, NJ, was arrested and charged in connection with a homicide in the confines of the 33rd Precinct. Florian is charged with murder, robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, hindering prosecution, and tampering with physical evidence.

This arrest comes several months after Jerson Acosta Batista, another 22-year-old Patterson resident, was arrested in connection with the same case. Batista is facing charges of criminally negligent homicide, attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, hindering prosecution, and tampering with physical evidence.

The charges stem from an incident on Thursday, October 3, 2019, when officers responded to a call of a male shot in front of 501 West 168 Street. The victim, 27-year-old Alberto Martinez of New York City, had sustained a gunshot wound to the torso and was later pronounced deceased at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.

The New York City Police Department is still seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two individuals connected to this case. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline.
