Lakewood township, shade tree commission join forces to celebrate arbor day

Lakewood, NJ – In honor of Arbor Day, the Lakewood Township Committee and the Lakewood Shade Tree Commission came together for their annual Arbor Day Planting ceremony.

The event took place at the front playground area of Pine Park on Friday, May 19, at 3:30 p.m. The ceremony witnessed the planting of three beautiful flowering Dogwood trees by officials from the Lakewood Parks Department.

Arbor Day, a tradition that originated in the United States in 1872, reminds us of significance of trees and encourages both individuals and groups to contribute to environmental conservation efforts by planting trees.

The Shade Tree Commission of Lakewood actively organizes Arbor Day celebrations each year and has played a role in planting numerous trees throughout the town.

Their dedication to urban forestry has earned Lakewood the prestigious “Tree City USA” designation for an impressive 42 consecutive years.

Key members of the Shade Tree Commission include Chairman Moshe Raitzik, Vice Chairman Craig Theibault, Harrison Pfeffer, and Secretary Mary Kay Malec. Acting as the Commission’s liaison to the Township Committee is Lakewood’s Deputy Mayor, Menashe Miller.

The Shade Tree Commission consists of individuals appointed by the Township Committee, who work diligently to uphold the town’s commitment to maintaining a flourishing tree canopy.
