Coram Man Indicted for Attempted Aggravated Murder and Robbery

SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. – Janell Funderburke, a 20-year-old resident of Coram, has been indicted for attempted aggravated murder of Suffolk County Police Officer Michael Lafauci, following an incident on Homestead Drive on Thursday, May 11, 2023. According to the District Attorney, Funderburke could face a sentence of up to 40 years to life in prison if found guilty on this count.

The indictment came after Funderburke was identified as the individual who shot Officer Lafauci in the upper right thigh during an attempted arrest. Funderburke was also indicted for a gunpoint robbery that took place three days earlier, on Homestead Drive. If found guilty of the robbery, Funderburke faces an additional sentence of up to 25 years in prison. Funderburke is due back in court on June 12, 2023.
