WASHINGTON, DC – Marquette E. Johnson, 42, was sentenced today to 27 years in prison and five years of supervised release for first-degree sexual abuse while armed and first-degree child sexual abuse while armed. Johnson pleaded guilty on July 11, 2023.
Government evidence showed that at about 8:30 a.m. on November 28, 2005, Johnson coerced a 12-year-old girl into his minivan under threat of violence as she was walking to school. He then drove her to an alley behind the 1300 block of Morris Road, SE, where he sexually assaulted her. After the assault, he returned the victim to her initial location, commenting that she wouldn’t miss school. The child promptly reported the incident to a teacher and a Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officer at the school.
DNA from the case matched Johnson, who is a convicted offender. Further testing indicated it was at least 87 quadrillion times more likely that the DNA evidence came from Johnson and the victim rather than from the victim and an unknown person. Johnson was not known to the victim or her family.
Following his prison term, Johnson will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
