Montgomery County Teen Arrested for Illegal Gun Possession

November 16, 2023

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – Jose Amaya, an 18-year-old from Montgomery Village, has been arrested and charged with illegal possession of a handgun. The arrest followed a traffic stop in Gaithersburg by the Montgomery County Police Department.

The incident occurred on Monday, November 13, 2023, around 6:30 PM. Officers from the 6th District Community Action Team pulled over a Cadillac Escalade in the 9600 block of Lost Knife Circle. Although no narcotics were found, officers discovered a loaded, un-serialized, privately manufactured firearm (PMF) under the driver’s seat.

Amaya, identified as the driver, was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm. Following the discovery, he was arrested and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. He faces charges of illegal firearm possession and related offenses and is currently being held without bond.
