Deadly Shooting in Newark Claims Life of 22-Year-Old East Orange Man

NEWARK, NJ – A 22-year-old East Orange man was fatally shot in Newark on Saturday, Dec. 23, marking another violent incident in the city within days.

Newark Police responded to a reported shooting at around 6:13 p.m. on the 100 block of Mountainview Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Kareem Abdul Jarmon Guilford, Jr. with a gunshot wound. Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé confirmed that Guilford was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the shooting is active and ongoing. As of now, no arrests have been made. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-847-7432.
