Stanley Martin, a 60-year-old resident of Willingboro, has been charged with the fatal stabbing of his wife, Dierdra Martin, in their home. Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw and Acting Director of Public Safety Captain Ian Bucs of Willingboro Township announced the charges, which include Murder (First Degree), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (Third Degree), and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Fourth Degree).
The incident leading to these charges began in the early hours of January 13, when Westampton Township Police Department officers responded to a call at the Wawa convenience store on Springside Road. A man, later identified as Stanley Martin, was reportedly threatening employees but had left before police arrived. Approximately an hour later, Martin was located and apprehended outside a closed retail business in Willingboro Township.
Following his apprehension, information led to a wellness check at Martin’s residence in the Hawthorne Park section of Willingboro. There, police officers discovered the body of 56-year-old Dierdra Martin. An autopsy conducted by Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood concluded that Dierdra Martin died from multiple stab wounds.
Stanley Martin has been lodged in the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly, awaiting a detention hearing scheduled for next week in Superior Court. The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office is preparing the case for presentation to a grand jury for possible indictment.
