MANVILLE, N.J. – In a significant development, Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, along with Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr. and Manville Borough Police Department’s Lieutenant Craig Jeremiah, announced the arrest of 21-year-old Alfonsina Anguita of W. Camplain Road, Manville, New Jersey. She faces charges related to the attempted murder of a three-year-old child.
The investigation began on December 12, 2023, when detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit were called to a local hospital. A three-year-old child had been admitted with signs of physical abuse and strangulation. Medical examinations confirmed indicators of child abuse and evidence of strangulation.
During the investigation, detectives interviewed the child, who disclosed that the injuries occurred while under the care of Anguita in Manville. This led to a collaborative investigation between the Special Victims Unit and the Manville Police Department.
The inquiry culminated on December 21, 2023, with Anguita’s arrest in Somerville. She was charged with first-degree attempted murder and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Following her arrest, Anguita was detained at the Somerset County Jail, awaiting a detention hearing related to these charges.
