The alert affects Ocean County and southeastern Burlington County, warning that air pollution concentrations could become unhealthy for individuals with respiratory or heart conditions, the elderly, and children. Officials advise these groups to limit outdoor exertion and avoid strenuous activity.
Weekend weather forecast calls for heat and scattered storms
Sunday’s weather will be mostly sunny with a high near 90°F. A slight chance of showers is expected between 1 and 2 p.m., with a small possibility of thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Winds will be calm, shifting westward at around 5 mph in the afternoon. The chance of precipitation is 20%.
Overnight, skies will be partly cloudy with lows around 69°F and calm winds.
On Monday, partly sunny skies return with a high near 89°F. A chance of showers is expected early in the afternoon, increasing to a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Winds will turn southeast at about 5 mph.
Residents in affected areas are advised to monitor air quality levels and adjust outdoor activities as needed.
