HARRISON TOWNSHIP, PA — A 47-year-old man was arrested following a tense standoff with the Allegheny County Police Department’s SWAT team in Harrison Township. The incident occurred early in the morning on June 11, when local police were attempting to serve an involuntary commitment order.
Officers arrived at a residence on Linden Street around 1:27 am and found the man armed with a knife. He subsequently barricaded himself inside the home, leading to a call for negotiators from the Allegheny County Police Department. As negotiations began, the man, who was found to be armed with multiple knives, retreated into a bedroom, prompting the involvement of the SWAT team.
After extensive negotiations, SWAT officers deployed an irritant into the home, which led to the man exiting the house and charging toward officers while still armed. The officers successfully subdued him using less lethal means, including bean bag rounds and a Taser.
The incident concluded with the man’s arrest at 2:20 pm, and he was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The successful resolution of the standoff prevented any injuries to officers or the individual involved.
