BELMAR, NJ – As of Memorial Day weekend, Belmar beaches and the boardwalk are open to the public. The Belmar Boardwalk will be open to pedestrian traffic only. Social Distancing Guidelines will be strictly adhered to pursuant to New Jersey Executive Order No. 103 issued on March 9, 2020. The Beach and Boardwalk are open. Social Distancing Guidelines are in place. No Dogs on the beach or boardwalk. No bikes, Rollerblades, or skateboards on the boardwalk at anytime. No volleyball or any type of ball playing.
Daily beach badges are $9.00 per person and required for anyone over the age of 15. Season beach badges are on sale at Taylor Pavilion, 500 Ocean Avenue, 7 days a week, 9 am to 4 pm. Cash or check only. Regular season badge is $70.00, senior (65 or older) is $30.00, and disabled with proper ID is $30.00. If the beach is closed due to weather or capacity issues, there will be no refunds. All sales are final. Social Distancing Guidelines will be enforced. To assist with Social Distancing Guidelines, additional ticket booths will be added to the boardwalk, as well as two booths will be placed at the top of Silver Lake.
The beach will be open for Memorial Day with guidelines to follow from the State of New Jersey.
The following steps have been taken to manage Social Distancing Guidelines: Social Distancing Task Force is comprised of Police Officers from the Belmar Police Department, members of the Belmar Office of Emergency Management, and employees of the Belmar Department of Public Works. This COVID-19 Task Force will patrol the beach and boardwalk to ensure compliance with social distancing guidelines and to monitor occupancy levels on the sand and beachfront area. Based on circumstances, beachgoers may have to be diverted to less crowded beaches to maintain proper distancing guidelines. This is a proactive approach rather than a reactive one. The Emergency Operations Center Command Post will be at the Public Safety Pavilion, 10th Avenue and Ocean Avenue. No public access. The Police Officers assigned will enforce all New Jersey State Statues and Belmar Borough Ordinances.
To maintain order on the boardwalk and conform to social distancing guidelines, the following precautions have been implemented: Removal of all benches from the boardwalk as to discourage gatherings that will disrupt social distancing guidelines; No Bicycles, Skateboards, Roller Blades, or other mechanical personal movement devices are allowed on the Boardwalk at any time.
Bicycles that impede the flow of pedestrian traffic or violate Belmar Borough Ordinance 16-14(n)(p); or are locked to any railings will be removed and transported to the Belmar Police Department.
No person shall engage in any type of rough athletics or “horseplay” on the beachfront or in the water adjacent thereto pursuant to Belmar Ordinance No. 18-2.7(h).
Beach shower controls replaced with timed motion detectors to turn the water on and off without a person touching the controls for each shower. A sanitizing schedule will also be implemented. All drinking water fountains removed.
Belmar Friendship Force-Ambassadors of Goodwill. This is a community-based group of Belmar residents who will volunteer their time to assist as needed in a nonconfrontational proactive approach expressing the need for social distancing on the oceanfront. The volunteers will be supplied with shirts that will identify them as members of the Belmar Friendship Force. PPE will also be supplied.
