Ashland Man Who Tied Child, Let Dog Attack Sentenced to Prison

ASHLAND, Ohio — A jury returned a partial guilty verdict last week in the trial of Robert Michalski Jr., who was accused in connection with the abuse of two children, including a dog attack that left a child seriously injured in Savannah.

The verdict was delivered June 13 following a four-day trial in Ashland County Court of Common Pleas. Michalski, of Ashland County, was convicted on two counts of complicity to commit endangering children and one count of tampering with evidence — all third-degree felonies.

He was acquitted on four other counts, including kidnapping, additional child endangerment charges, and possessing criminal tools. The trial was presided over by Judge David Stimpert and prosecuted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Matthew Metcalf and Laura Stanley.

The case originated from an incident on August 17, 2024. Prosecutors said two children — a boy and his sister — were subjected to abuse in Michalski’s home. The boy, while allegedly restrained with handcuffs, was attacked by a dog, suffering serious injuries. Authorities reported the children had been periodically restrained using various devices over an extended period.

Co-defendants plead guilty ahead of trial

Two co-defendants, Angelina Williams and Taylor Marvin-Brown, previously entered guilty pleas to multiple charges, including kidnapping, endangering children, obstructing justice, and possessing criminal tools. Williams, the children’s mother, will be sentenced June 30, while Marvin-Brown is scheduled for sentencing on July 14.

The children are no longer in the defendants’ custody. The boy has recovered physically, and both children remain under protective care.
