Atlantic City Police Recover Two Handguns in Separate Incidents, Three Arrested

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Atlantic City Police Department arrested three individuals and recovered two handguns in separate incidents involving juveniles on Friday night.

The first incident occurred at approximately 9:05 p.m. on the 100 block of North New Jersey Avenue. Officers responded to a report of a man pointing a firearm at a group of teenagers. Sergeant Garry Stowe identified the suspect as Haneef Bashir, 45, of Atlantic City, after speaking with the teens and obtaining a description. A search of Bashir’s vehicle by Officer Zayon Pitts led to the discovery of a loaded handgun. Bashir was arrested without incident.

Shortly thereafter, at 9:22 p.m., Officers Adrianna Petinga, Isabella Rando, Gissell Garcia, and Franco Sydnor were dispatched to Bally’s Atlantic City following a report of an unattended infant in a hotel room. Security personnel had been alerted by a housekeeper who found the child alone after the room’s occupants, Jequan Campbell, 33, and Teeah McCall, 33, both of Erwin, North Carolina, had requested items from housekeeping and then left the room. Campbell was found in possession of a handgun when officers located the couple. Medical personnel evaluated the infant, and the New Jersey Department of Child Protection & Permanency was notified.

Bashir faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a weapon and aggravated assault. He has been remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Campbell, who faces charges including endangering the welfare of children and unlawful possession of a weapon, was also remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. McCall was charged with endangering the welfare of children and released on a summons.
