Police officers who stopped a gunshot victim from bleeding to death, revived two people in cardiac arrest and helped advance DNA crime-solving efforts were recognized during a public township meeting.

BENSALEM, Pa. — Several members of the Bensalem Township Police Department were recognized during the latest Bensalem Township Council meeting for life-saving actions and exceptional service performed during multiple incidents this year.

Among those honored was Corporal Noah Pultro, who was recognized for his actions during a Jan. 8 shooting at the Top of the Ridge trailer park.

According to the department, Pultro was the first officer to arrive and found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper left arm. He immediately applied a tourniquet, stopping the bleeding before Bensalem EMS arrived. Officials said the victim made a full recovery.

Officer Clifford Snyder and Officer Richard Adams were also recognized for their response to a medical emergency on March 25.

While patrolling near Byberry Road and Galloway Road, Officer Adams located a vehicle parked on a sidewalk with an unresponsive driver inside. Corporal Steven Ambs, Officer Michael Sheehy, Officer Christopher Pennington and Officer Brett Beaumont were honored for their response to a May 2 cardiac arrest involving a 57-year-old man.

Police said the officers immediately began CPR and used a department-issued automated external defibrillator, delivering two shocks that restored the man’s pulse before he was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. He also made a full recovery.

Detective Sgt. Glenn Vandegrift was separately recognized by Chester County Chief of Detectives David Sassa for assisting with the implementation of the county’s DNA program.

During the presentation, Sassa credited Vandegrift and the Bensalem Township Police Department with helping advance the use of DNA technology to solve both major crimes and other criminal investigations.

The department thanked Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo and the Bensalem Township Council for recognizing the officers during the public meeting.

Police said two of the people whose lives were saved attended the meeting to personally thank the officers involved.
