Bethlehem Township Swears In Two New Police Officers Following Academy Graduations

The Bethlehem Township Police Department has welcomed two new officers who recently completed police academy training and will now begin a year-long probationary and field training program.

The Bethlehem Township Police Department has added two new officers to its ranks after both men were officially sworn in during a Township Board of Commissioners meeting earlier this week.

Officer Illia Suvorov, Badge No. 684, and Officer Alexander Mooney, Badge No. 685, were welcomed to the department following their recent graduations from Pennsylvania police academies.

New officers begin training period

Department officials said both officers will now enter a one-year training and probationary period that starts with three months of supervised field training.

During that phase, each officer will work directly with a veteran Field Training Officer who will provide mentorship, instruction, and guidance while introducing them to department operations, policies, and procedures.

“The two new officers will now begin a one-year training and probationary period which starts with three months of supervised field training,” the department said.

Officials added that Field Training Officers help new recruits learn the practical aspects of policing while preparing them for independent patrol duties.

Officer Suvorov immigrated from Ukraine

Suvorov, 31, was born and raised in Ukraine and attended the Donetsk National Academy of Civil Engineering before immigrating to the United States with his family in 2015.

He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2023 and married his wife in 2021. Before entering law enforcement, Suvorov worked in several sales-related positions.

“Illia has worked in a number of sales related jobs since coming to the U.S., but stated he has always had a strong desire to pursue a career in law enforcement,” the department said.

After being appointed to the department in December 2025, Suvorov attended the Allentown Police Academy and graduated as a member of the 117th academy class, earning his Act 120 Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officer Certification.

Officer Mooney graduated with honors

Mooney, 23, grew up in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, and graduated from Hunterdon Central High School in 2021.

He later attended West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where he completed an accelerated Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree program in Criminal Justice, graduating with honors in 2025.

“Alex expressed a very strong desire to pursue a career in law enforcement and immediately enrolled in the police academy after graduating from college,” officials said.

Mooney was appointed to the department on June 1 and recently graduated from the Delaware County Community College Municipal Police Academy, where he also earned his Act 120 certification.

The department encouraged residents to welcome the officers and wish them success as they begin their law enforcement careers serving the Bethlehem Township community.
