Body found in cooler behind Miami business leads to second-degree murder arrest

MIAMI, Fla. — A 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder after the body of an unidentified man was discovered in a cooler behind a business in Miami, authorities announced Wednesday.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau said deputies and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responded on March 28 at approximately 3:02 p.m. to a call about an unresponsive adult male at 10702 NW 7 Avenue. The man was found inside an exterior cooler located at the rear of the establishment.

Upon arrival, emergency crews determined the victim was deceased at the scene. His identity has not yet been confirmed, and he is described only as an adult Black male.

Following an investigation, detectives identified Oscar Rivera-Peraza, 35, as a suspect. Rivera-Peraza was located and taken into custody after speaking with investigators. He has been formally charged with second-degree murder.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue efforts to identify the deceased individual and determine a motive.
