Boonton Chase Bank Robbery Suspect Sought After Armed Heist on Myrtle Avenue

Authorities are asking the public to help identify a masked gunman who allegedly stole about $12,000 from a Chase Bank in Boonton before fleeing in a Honda Odyssey.

Boonton, NJ – Law enforcement agencies are searching for the suspect in an armed bank robbery that occurred Saturday afternoon at the Chase Bank on Myrtle Avenue in Boonton. Investigators said the masked suspect entered the bank shortly before 2 p.m., displayed a handgun, demanded money, and fled with approximately $12,000 in cash.

The robbery was reported at about 1:57 p.m. at the Chase Bank located at 530 Myrtle Avenue. According to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect escaped in a nearby gray or silver Honda Odyssey, which investigators believe was used as the getaway vehicle.

Suspect description released

Authorities described the suspect as a Caucasian man believed to be in his 50s. Investigators said he was wearing a black suit, black gloves, a dark-colored tie, sunglasses, and a ski mask while carrying out the robbery.

The investigation is being led by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Morris County Sheriff’s Department, Boonton Police Department, and the FBI.

Officials seek tips from the public

Officials also addressed inaccurate information circulating online, stating that “Contrary to erroneous social media reports, the suspect was not detained during a motor vehicle stop on Route 80.”
