The festive evening at Martin’s Park served as a heartfelt reminder of the power of community and remembrance.

BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s District C-6 and Harbor Patrol Unit joined community members and city officials on Tuesday night for the annual Martin’s Park Ship Lighting at the Seaport, a beloved holiday tradition.

Dressed as Santa and The Grinch, officers arrived in style aboard a Harbor Patrol boat, where they were met with cheers from hundreds of children and families gathered near the Children’s Museum dock. The event was filled with holiday excitement as officers mingled with attendees, spreading joy and taking photos with residents.

Mayor Michelle Wu joined officers and other officials aboard the ship for the highlight of the evening—flipping the switch to light up the vessel and illuminate the night sky. The ship is part of Martin’s Park, a space dedicated to the memory of 8-year-old Martin Richard, who was one of the victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

“This park is a special place for our city, and this event is a wonderful way to bring our community together,” the department shared in a statement.

The Boston Police Department thanked the community for coming out and pledged its commitment to ensuring a safe and joyous holiday season for all.
