BRONX, NY — District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced the indictment of Douglas Bond, a 33-year-old Bronx resident, for a violent assault during an attempted robbery on a subway train, resulting in a man losing a large portion of his index finger. Bond faces charges including first-degree Assault and Attempted Robbery, among others, with his arraignment taking place on February 20, 2024, before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Brenda Rivera. He is scheduled to return to court on May 14, 2024.

The incident occurred on December 16, 2023, when Bond, allegedly targeting Junior Salmon, confronted him with a knife on the No. 4 train as it neared 170th Street in the Bronx. In an attempt to steal a gold necklace, Bond slashed and stabbed Salmon, severing at least two inches of his index finger. Despite Salmon’s efforts to pursue Bond after the attack, the victim’s finger could not be reattached by medical professionals at BronxCare Hospital.

District Attorney Clark emphasized the necessity for New Yorkers to commute without the fear of violence, denouncing the attack as a severe breach of public safety.
