BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A 29-year-old man was arraigned Wednesday on a 15-count indictment, including charges of assault and robbery, for allegedly attacking six individuals in Brooklyn, primarily targeting senior citizens over a span of less than a month. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office announced the indictment, underscoring the severity of the attacks, which occurred in Sunset Park, Bay Ridge, and Coney Island.
According to the indictment, Mouhamed Diallo, 29, is accused of approaching his victims from behind, knocking them to the ground, and in some cases, stealing their belongings. Five of the six victims were senior citizens, ranging in age from 60 to 87 years old. Diallo faces charges including second- and third-degree assault, fourth-degree grand larceny, and second- and third-degree robbery.
“The outrageousness of this defendant’s disturbing attacks on vulnerable seniors cannot be overstated,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. “This kind of random violence can terrorize a community, and it will never be tolerated in Brooklyn.”
The alleged assaults occurred between April 28 and May 21, 2024. In each incident, the defendant is accused of approaching the victims from behind, striking or pushing them to the ground, and in one case, stealing a purse containing cash and credit cards. All incidents were reportedly captured on surveillance video, leading to Diallo’s arrest on May 23.
Diallo was arraigned before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Herbert Moses, where his bail was set at $100,000 cash or $300,000 bond. After being deemed unfit to proceed, he was remanded into treatment until he is found fit to stand trial.
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Natalie Riether of the Blue Zone Trial Bureau, under the supervision of Bureau Chief Kin Ng.
