BUFFALO, NY – An incident at a daycare facility on Kensington Avenue led to the arrest of the daycare director, Mary Goodwill, on Tuesday. Buffalo Police responded to the scene at approximately 12 PM after reports of an alleged assault.
The altercation began when a 17-year-old female confronted Goodwill over claims of an employee harming a child. The situation escalated, resulting in the teenager being physically pushed out of the facility in view of a classroom of children. Goodwill, 52, from Tonawanda, is now facing charges of endangering the welfare of a child—a class A misdemeanor—and second-degree harassment, a violation.
Following the incident, an influx of concerned parents arrived at the daycare, spurred by posts on social media regarding potential harm to children. Erie County Child Protective Services and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services were also called to investigate.
The daycare has voluntarily closed for the week pending further investigation by the OCFS, with the Buffalo Police Special Victims Unit involved as well.
