CARTERET, N.J. — Authorities have ruled the death of a man who sustained a fatal gunshot wound in Carteret as a suicide, officials announced Wednesday. The ruling followed an investigation led by local and county detectives.

On September 18, at approximately 2:47 p.m., officers responded to the area of Pershing and Union Avenue after receiving a 911 call from a family member of the victim, reporting that the man had shot himself. Upon arrival, police located the male victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy was conducted the following day by the medical examiner, who determined that the cause of death was suicide. The investigation was handled by Detective Keith Cassens of the Carteret Police Department and Detective Stephanie Redline of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

No further details about the victim have been released.
