Central Islip Man Indicted for High-Speed Crash and Fleeing Scene

July 10, 2024

SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. – District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced that Jamal Graham, 30, of Central Islip, was indicted for Assault in the Second Degree, Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting, and related charges. Graham allegedly caused a high-speed crash on a residential road and fled the scene on foot.

On May 29, 2023, at approximately 11:25 p.m., Graham was reportedly driving a 2004 Infiniti G35 at a high rate of speed on Hale Street in Brentwood. He allegedly ignored a stop sign at the intersection of Hale Street and Lincoln Avenue, colliding with a Nissan Rogue driven by a mother with her teenage son and his friend. All three occupants sustained injuries, with the mother and her son requiring emergency surgery.

Video surveillance captured the incident, showing Graham fleeing the scene after the crash. On July 8, 2024, Graham was arraigned before County Court Judge Philip Goglas on multiple charges, including two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, two counts of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting, one count of Assault in the Third Degree, one count of Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, and one count of Reckless Driving.

Judge Goglas set bail at $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond, or $1 million partially secured bond. Graham is due back in court on July 16, represented by the Legal Aid Society.

Assistant District Attorney James McCormack of the Vehicular Crime Bureau is prosecuting the case, with investigative assistance from Detective Donald Britton of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Third Squad.
