CHERRY HILL, N.J. — A 61-year-old man was shot while sitting in his vehicle at a Route 70 shopping center, and a Cherry Hill suspect has now been charged with attempted murder following a swift investigation, authorities said.
Officers responded around 3:53 p.m. April 15 to Liberty Bell Plaza at 2083 Route 70 East, where they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound inside a vehicle, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Cherry Hill Police Department.
Shooting Unfolds in Busy Shopping Center
Investigators determined the suspect pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle in the parking lot and opened fire before leaving the scene.
The victim was transported to Cooper University Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
Detectives used surveillance footage to identify the suspect as Terrence Roberts, 52, of Cherry Hill, and track his vehicle back to his residence.
Arrest Leads to Weapons Seizure
A search of Roberts’ home on April 16 led to the seizure of multiple firearms, authorities said.
Roberts was taken into custody the same day and later charged with first-degree attempted murder, weapons offenses, and possession of a large-capacity magazine.
He is being held at the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing in Superior Court.
“The quick response, diligent police work, and our effective technology investments proved invaluable as we were able to identify and take this offender into custody without further incident,” Cherry Hill Police Chief John Ostermueller said.
