EWING TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A child has died after being pulled unresponsive from a fire that broke out in a multi-unit condominium building on Lower Ferry Road, police said.

The blaze erupted around 3 p.m. on Thursday, prompting a swift response from police and firefighters. Officers arriving at the scene learned that a boy was trapped on the fourth floor of the building, where the fire originated.

“Officers began evacuating the building and attempted to reach the main apartment on the fourth floor where the fire originated, encountering heavy smoke and flames,” police said in a statement.

Responders later located the unresponsive child and rushed him to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details about the victim or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
