Child’s Family Sues Casino Pier After Amusement Ride Incident Left Him With Permanent Injuries

A lawsuit filed against Casino Pier alleges a child suffered severe, permanent injuries while riding an amusement attraction in Seaside Heights, claiming the amusement park failed to properly maintain the ride and ensure guest safety.

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. — A lawsuit has been filed against Casino Pier & Breakwater Beach alleging a minor sustained serious and permanent injuries while riding an amusement attraction at the popular Seaside Heights boardwalk destination.

The complaint, filed in Bergen County Superior Court by Ahmed Makled on behalf of his minor son, Zaid Makled, alleges the child was injured on May 26, 2024, while lawfully visiting Casino Pier at 800 Ocean Terrace. The allegations in the lawsuit have not been proven in court, and Casino Pier has not yet filed a response.

Lawsuit alleges negligent maintenance and safety failures

According to the complaint, Zaid Makled suffered “severe, life-altering, permanent injuries” while riding an amusement ride at the park. The lawsuit alleges the incident resulted from Casino Pier’s failure to properly maintain its amusement rides, identify and correct hazardous conditions, and adequately hire or train employees responsible for ride safety.

The complaint further alleges the accident occurred “suddenly, unexpectedly, and without warning,” leaving the child with permanent physical injuries as well as ongoing emotional distress and mental anguish.

Unknown employees and operators also named

In addition to Casino Pier, the lawsuit names unidentified amusement ride owners, operators and employees identified as John Does and Alan Does. The complaint alleges those unidentified individuals may have owned, operated, maintained or supervised the ride and may have contributed to the incident through negligent operation, maintenance or failure to follow required amusement ride safety practices.

The plaintiffs are seeking compensatory damages for economic and non-economic losses, along with court costs and other relief deemed appropriate. A jury trial has been requested.

The case remains pending, and the allegations contained in the complaint have not been tested in court.
