Christmas Eve power outage hits Berkeley Lacey and Lanoka Harbor as crews investigate downed lines

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. – More than 1,600 customers were without power Wednesday morning across parts of Berkeley, Lacey, and Lanoka Harbor as Jersey Central Power & Light crews worked to determine the cause of a widespread outage.

According to JCP&L’s outage map, approximately 1,619 customers lost electricity, with an estimated restoration time of 2 p.m. on December 24. Utility officials said the cause remains under investigation, though early reports suggest downed power lines in the State Tree Road area near Double Trouble State Park may be to blame.

A JCP&L crew has been dispatched to the scene to assess damage and begin restoration efforts. The company has not yet confirmed the exact source of the outage or how long repairs may take.

Residents in portions of Berkeley Township, Lacey Township, and Lanoka Harbor have reported intermittent flickering and full loss of power since late morning. Police and emergency management officials urged drivers to use caution at intersections where traffic signals are out.

As of early afternoon, JCP&L crews remained in the field working to restore service to affected neighborhoods.
