CINNAMINSON, N.J. — Following reports of drone activity over Cinnaminson and other areas of New Jersey, local police have referred the matter to the FBI and New Jersey State Police, authorities said Friday.
On Thursday, December 12, several drones were reportedly spotted flying over Cinnaminson Township. Officers from the Cinnaminson Township Police Department observed the drones and promptly relayed all available information to federal and state agencies.
A joint statement issued by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI indicated that there is currently no evidence suggesting the drones pose a public safety or national security threat. Authorities are investigating whether the sightings involve actual drones, manned aircraft, or misidentified objects.
Police emphasized that state law enforcement is limited in its ability to counter unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and that only federal agencies are authorized to take down drones. Residents were urged not to attempt to interfere with drones themselves, as doing so poses significant risks.
