Cooper Lane Elementary Teacher Arrested for Sexual Abuse and Possession of Lewd Images

LANDOVER HILLS, Md. — A teacher at Cooper Lane Elementary School in Landover Hills has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including sexual abuse of a minor and possession of lewd images of children. The suspect, 44-year-old Mark Cobb of Bowie, is accused of victimizing a former student, a girl under the age of 10.

The Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse Unit (CVAA) was notified of the allegations against Cobb on August 25, 2024. According to the preliminary investigation, Cobb had been communicating with the victim via text messages between June 2023 and August 2024. During this period, Cobb allegedly solicited and received sexually inappropriate photos from the victim.

Cobb was taken into custody on Monday. Following his arrest, detectives executed a search warrant at his home, where they recovered items of evidence. Cobb now faces charges including sexual abuse of a minor, nine counts of possession of lewd images of children, and promoting and distributing lewd images with the intent to possess.

At this time, no additional victims have been identified at Cooper Lane Elementary School. However, detectives are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with information relevant to the case to contact the CVAA at 301-772-4930.
