No New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Jackson Today

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ  (JACKSON TOWNSHIP NEWS)- If any town in New Jersey has done their part to soften the COVID-19 curve and stay healthy, it’s Jackson Township, located in Ocean County.   Even though Jackson borders Lakewood and Toms River Township, the two town in the county with the most COVID-19 infections and being the fourth largest municipality by population, Jackson has fared well during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To date, 41 people have died in Jackson and through last week, only one of those fatalities officially occurred outside an assisted living facility.  As of today, state records show 36 fatalities in those facilities with the vast majority being at the Bartley Healthcare Nursing and Rehabilitation where 31 have died.  State records are usually 7 to 10 days behind county records, so that figure should increase nearer to the 41 total in the next few days officially.  Jackson Township’s rate of new infections peaked about three weeks ago.  A large spike in daily reporting two weeks ago represented when facilities in town reported their numbers to the county.

When it comes to total confirmed cases, Jackson a town with an estimated 54,000 residents had just 741 confirmed cases.  Almost 200 of those cases were in the town’s five senior living facilities and most of those once again being at the Bartley facility.  This week, in light of the figures in Jackson, Mayor Michael Reina decided to reopen parks to recreational sports practices provided Governor Phil Murphy’s guidelines on social distancing are followed.
