TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey motorists experienced numerous disruptions and delays on Thursday morning due to crashes, roadwork, and heavy traffic conditions across the state.
As of 7:59 a.m., a crash on the Garden State Parkway northbound, just north of Exit 136 (Stiles St) in Cranford Township, has resulted in a left lane closure. Earlier, at 7:03 a.m., a crash with property damage on the New Jersey Turnpike near Interchange 15E (US 1&9) in Newark had all lanes open.
Additional road issues included a water main break at 3:54 a.m. on US 1&9 northbound, south of Randolph Avenue in Woodbridge Township, which has closed the right lane and shoulder. Furthermore, at 2:51 a.m., a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike outer roadway northbound, just north of Interchange 6 (Pennsylvania Turnpike) in Mansfield Township, caused a full lane closure.
Traffic delays were widespread. By 8:04 a.m., US 9 southbound experienced delays from north of CR 10 (Gunning River Rd) in Barnegat Township to south of Georgetown Blvd in Stafford Township due to volume. I-295 northbound also faced delays and sun glare between Exit 23 (US 130) in West Deptford Township and Exit 30 (Warwick Rd) in Lawnside as of 8:03 a.m. Meanwhile, US 30 westbound near CR 628 (North Park Dr) in Pennsauken Township experienced delays from volume at 8:00 a.m.
Motorists traveling to New York faced significant delays. As of 7:59 a.m., the Holland Tunnel’s eastbound route had a travel time of 25 minutes, while traffic at the George Washington Bridge eastbound required 30 to 45 minutes to cross, depending on the level used.
