Cumberland Police Arrest Two Following Traffic Stop for Drugs, Warrants

February 16, 2024

Cumberland, MD – A routine traffic stop by the Cumberland Police Department on the evening of February 15, 2024, led to the arrest of two individuals on various charges, including possession of controlled dangerous substances and multiple active arrest warrants.

Officers stopped a vehicle around 7:10 PM at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Boone Street. The vehicle’s occupants, Treyvon Lamar Rideout, Christopher Leon Love Jr., and another passenger were contacted during the operation. After observing criminal indicators, a K-9 unit was summoned and signaled a positive alert for the presence of narcotics. A search resulted in the discovery of controlled substances and paraphernalia.

Further investigation revealed that Rideout was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the Circuit Court of Washington County. He was subsequently detained without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center. Love, initially providing a false identity to the officers, was found to have three active arrest warrants related to failure to appear in court, assault, and burglary incidents dating back to February 2, 2023, and as recent as May 17, 2023.

The charges against Rideout include possession of a controlled dangerous substance (not cannabis). Love faces a slew of charges across three separate warrants, including third and fourth-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree assault, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, malicious destruction of property, and failure to appear.
