Investigators seek suspect weeks after victim was lured to a vehicle during predawn encounter

WASHINGTON, DC – A gunman accused of offering a man a ride before pulling a firearm, stealing his belongings and shooting him is now the focus of a public search, with DC police releasing surveillance footage weeks after the violent encounter in Northwest DC.

The robbery and shooting occurred at approximately 4:34 a.m. July 26 in the 1600 block of 12th Street NW, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Officers responding to a report of a shooting found an adult man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

DC Fire and EMS transported him to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators determined that the encounter began when the suspect offered the victim transportation.

The victim accompanied the suspect to a vehicle, where police allege the suspect pulled out a firearm and demanded his property.

After taking the victim’s belongings, the gunman allegedly shot him and fled.

Police have not disclosed what was stolen or what preceded the suspect’s offer of transportation.

Weeks after the shooting, investigators are still working to identify the suspect.

Security cameras captured the individual, and MPD has released video of the suspect along with an image in hopes that someone will recognize the person.
