Man arrested in violent Connecticut Avenue robbery after woman choked and mugged
WASHINGTON, DC – A man is in custody after a woman was attacked, strangled, and robbed in a Northwest alley just before sunrise last week in a case that drew the attention of multiple federal and local agencies.
On Tuesday, September 23 at approximately 5:50 a.m., a woman was walking behind the 4200 block of Connecticut Avenue NW when a man grabbed her from behind and began choking her. Police say the woman fought back, and the suspect fled after stealing her phone.
After a weeklong investigation, 39-year-old Gregory Woods Jr. of Northwest, D.C., was arrested on Tuesday, September 30. He has been charged with Assault with Intent to Kill, Felony Strangulation, and Robbery.
The arrest was the result of a coordinated effort between the Metropolitan Police Department, the Metro Transit Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the United States Secret Service, and the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency.
Authorities have not released further details on how Woods was located or what led to the charges.
