Decades old car pulled from murky waters near South Jersey boat ramp
Absecon, NJ — A long-submerged vehicle hidden beneath dark waters for years was finally pulled to the surface Sunday, revealing a decades-old mystery just yards from a local boat ramp.
The recovery took place at Faunce Landing boat ramp after police received information about a possible vehicle resting underwater. Officers partnered with Northeast Public Safety Divers, a specialized dive team, to locate and retrieve the vehicle.
Divers operating in zero visibility conditions located the vehicle approximately 200 feet from the ramp within a short time of entering the water.
Parts of the vehicle were brought up and identified as an early 1990s Nissan Sentra. With assistance from City Wide Towing, the remaining sections—damaged by years of storms and saltwater exposure—were recovered and brought ashore.

Officials said the vehicle had likely been submerged for many years, though the circumstances surrounding how it ended up in the water remain under investigation.
The operation included support from the U.S. Coast Guard’s Atlantic City station, which maintained a safety presence during the recovery.
Authorities confirmed the boat ramp has since reopened following the operation.
Police are asking anyone with information about the vehicle to contact the Absecon Police Department.
