Delaware couple’s quick stop turns into stunning  Maryland Lottery jackpot

Routine gas station visit delivers surprise FAST PLAY windfall across state line

WILLARDS, Md. — A Delaware couple who usually chase Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots found themselves celebrating a very different kind of lottery fortune after a quick stop in Maryland produced a $176K FAST PLAY jackpot win.

The husband and wife team claimed a $176,777 progressive jackpot prize on May 26 after purchasing a $10 FAST PLAY Platinum Payout ticket at Dash In, located at 7201 Main St. in Willards.

The couple told Maryland Lottery officials they typically play Mega Millions and Powerball twice a week and expected that if they ever won big, it would come from one of those games.

Instead, a trip across the Maryland-Delaware border on May 24 led to an unexpected lottery detour.

While stopping for gas in Willards, one of the winners decided to purchase a Platinum Payout ticket along with their usual lottery selections.

Lottery officials said the player immediately scanned the ticket and received a message instructing her to take it to the Lottery.

After taking a closer look, the couple realized the ticket was worth $176,777.

The pair said they needed time to compose themselves before continuing their drive.

Platinum Payout launched in April with 12 progressive jackpot prizes available. Maryland Lottery officials said this is the first progressive jackpot claimed in the game.

The progressive jackpot begins at $75K and increases each time a non-jackpot winning ticket is sold.

Officials also noted that all six second-tier prizes worth $50K remain available.

Dash In will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.
