Delaware State Police say a Magnolia man pulled a firearm and aimed it at students after being sprayed with water from a toy water gun
MAGNOLIA, Del. — A Delaware man has been arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at students aboard a school bus following an encounter involving a water gun, according to Delaware State Police.
Charles McCombs, 62, of Magnolia, was taken into custody June 11 and charged with multiple felony offenses stemming from the incident, which investigators say occurred earlier in the week.
Police said the investigation began June 9 at approximately 8 p.m. when the School Resource Officer assigned to Polytech High School was alerted by school administrators to a cellphone video showing a man pointing a gun at students on a school bus.
Detectives determined the incident occurred earlier that day while a school bus was traveling on Peachtree Run near Millchop Lane in Magnolia.
According to investigators, a student on the bus sprayed water from a water gun at a man riding a Can-Am Spyder motorcycle alongside the bus. Police said the motorcyclist then yelled at the students, pulled out a gun and pointed it toward the school bus as it continued driving away.
Using evidence gathered during the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as McCombs and obtained an arrest warrant.
McCombs was arrested without incident and transported to Delaware State Police Troop 3.
He was charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Aggravated Menacing (six counts)
Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 2, McCombs was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $48,000 secured bond.
Court records did not immediately indicate whether he had obtained legal representation.
