NEW YORK — It didn’t take long for a Democrat lawmaker to blame a plane crash in Canada on President Donald J. Trump. A New York U.S. Senator is blaming Trump and non-flight-controller layoffs at the FAA for a plane crash in Canada.

No, this is not the Onion or Babylon Bee.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized recent FAA layoffs under the Trump administration, suggesting they are making air travel less safe, following a flight incident in Toronto.

“I’m thankful that everyone in the flight incident in Toronto that took off from Minneapolis is safe, but we keep seeing these incidents day after day,” Schumer wrote.

He accused former President Donald Trump of overseeing “massive layoffs at the FAA—including safety specialists—and making our skies less and less safe.” Schumer emphasized that “Democrats are fighting to protect the flying public.”

Schumer’s remarks come after Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that not a single air traffic controller has been cut from the FAA roster.
