Anne Arundel County, MD – A 911 dispatcher is being recognized for her life-saving actions after calmly managing a volatile emergency call involving an armed man experiencing a mental health crisis with family members inside the home.

Public Safety Communications Operator I Cathy Henry was named the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Communications Section Employee of the Month for October following her response to a high-stakes call on October 29.

According to the department, PCO Henry took a call reporting an armed individual in the midst of a mental health episode who had discharged a firearm inside his residence. With multiple family members still inside the home, Henry maintained a composed and professional demeanor, guiding the caller with clear and assertive instructions.

Her quick thinking and firm communication enabled the safe evacuation of three family members from the house before officers arrived. The situation was brought under control without injuries, and the individual in crisis was ultimately taken for appropriate treatment.
