Donovan Catholic Football Team Christens New Field With Victory

TOMS RIVER-The Donovan Catholic Griffins sports teams have a new turf field and on Friday night, Father Scott Schaffer blessed the new field ahead of a 24-0 victory against Asbury Park.

“It’s been our hope since I got here a few years ago to continue to show that Donovan Catholic is alive and well, to continue to build all of our programs, our academics and our performing arts,” said Father Scott Shaffer before Friday night’s game.  “We thank God ask for his blessing of our field.”

Quarterback Ryan Clark went 10-13, throwing for 166 yards and one passing touchdown. Nasir Calhoun took the ball into the endzone twice.  Clark connected with Dominick Nocero on a 44 yard pass.

Keaon Torres had a field goal and was perfect on extra point kicks, putting three between the uprights.  The Griffins are now 3-0 in 2018.

Toms River Township Councilman Mo Hill attended the nlessing and first game at the new turf field in a show of support for the Griffins.

The new turf field will be used for football, soccer, lacrosse and field hockey.
