FELTON, DE — A Dover woman with four prior DUI convictions now faces a fifth offense charge after crashing into a mailbox and resisting arrest during a roadside investigation, Delaware State Police said Wednesday.
Ashley Green, 42, was arrested Tuesday, April 21, following the midday crash on Main Street near Dundee Road, according to Delaware State Police.
Crash leads trooper to impaired driver
The incident began around 12:15 p.m. when a trooper was flagged down by a motorist reporting that a red vehicle had struck a pole.
When the trooper located the vehicle—a red Chevrolet HHR—it had instead crashed into a mailbox and was partially on a curb.
Police said Green was inside the vehicle and appeared to be talking on a phone “however, no one was on the line,” according to the Delaware State Police statement.
Troopers observed multiple signs of impairment and asked her to exit the vehicle.
Arrest escalates during roadside encounter
Authorities say Green refused to comply and “actively resisted arrest,” leading to a physical struggle.
According to police, she continued resisting “through a taser deployment” and spit on several troopers before being taken into custody.
