PHILADELPHIA, PA — A 41-year-old man is facing multiple charges after allegedly driving under the influence and striking two city employees with his vehicle late Wednesday night during a picket line demonstration in Port Richmond.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:04 p.m. outside 3901 N. Delaware Avenue, where officers from the 24th District were stationed for strike detail. Police say a black 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe drove onto the sidewalk and hit two city workers who were seated in front of the picket line.
Witnesses immediately flagged down officers and directed them toward the fleeing vehicle. Responding units intercepted the SUV at 2900 Castor Avenue, where the driver was taken into custody. The passenger was questioned and later released pending further investigation.
The driver, identified as Damon Robinson of the 1400 block of South 2nd Street, was processed for DUI and charged with Driving Under the Influence, Aggravated Assault, and related offenses.
One of the victims remains hospitalized in critical condition. The other was treated and released. No other injuries were reported among city personnel at the scene.
The Philadelphia Police Department’s Crash Investigation Unit, in coordination with East Detectives, is leading the investigation. The vehicle has been towed for forensic examination.
