Driver killed after SUV crashes, overturns and bursts into flames in White Township

A 54-year-old woman died late Friday night after her SUV veered off the road, struck a rock and utility pole, and caught fire in White Township, according to New Jersey State Police.

Troopers responded around 11:19 p.m. to the scene of the crash on County Road 519 South at milepost 42.8, Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said.

Preliminary findings indicate that the Hyundai SUV was heading south when it left the roadway to the right, hitting a large rock and a utility pole before overturning. The vehicle then became fully engulfed in flames.

The driver, identified as Jacqueline Bernette Breeland of Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, died from her injuries at the scene.

A passenger in the SUV suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by state police.
