Drone helps police nab suspects after chase involving stolen car in Brooklyn Park

BROOKLYN PARK, MD – Two suspects were arrested Friday evening after officers tracked a stolen vehicle and recovered drugs, cash, and a key fob programming device, police said.

The incident unfolded around 4:45 p.m. on Nov. 28 when the Automated License Plate Reader System alerted Anne Arundel County officers to a stolen black 2021 Acura IIX in the area of Church Street and Disney Avenue.

When police arrived, the vehicle was unoccupied. Moments later, three males exited a nearby convenience store, and one used a remote key fob to unlock the car.

As officers approached, all three suspects ran.

Police quickly set up a perimeter and deployed a patrol drone, which located two of the suspects hiding nearby. Both were taken into custody without further incident.

A search of the stolen Acura turned up about 1.1 pounds of suspected cannabis packaged for sale, 15 suspected Suboxone strips, $993 in cash, and a key fob programming device believed to have been used to access stolen vehicles.

One suspect still at large

The arrested suspects were identified as 23-year-old Dashawn Marvin Kendale Squirrel of Brooklyn Park and a 16-year-old male from Brooklyn, Maryland.

The third suspect remains at large as the investigation continues.
