STAFFORD, VA – A 39-year-old man from Stafford, identified as Stephen Alexander, has been arrested following an incident where he struck a deputy’s vehicle while allegedly driving under the influence. The collision occurred on July 29th around 11:07 p.m. on the Jessica Cheney Bridge.

Deputy S. Waheed initiated a traffic stop for an equipment violation at the intersection of Garrisonville Road and Salisbury Drive. Moments after exiting his cruiser, it was hit by Alexander’s black Acura MDX, which was reportedly speeding. Despite the impact, there were no injuries reported.

Alexander fled the scene, leading deputies on a chase that ended in Aquia Harbour. Assisted by local police and using debris from the crash including a side view mirror, authorities located the suspect’s vehicle. Alexander displayed signs of intoxication and had a revoked license due to a prior DUI in 2023.

He now faces multiple charges including second offense DUI within five years, felony hit and run, and several other traffic-related offenses. Alexander was detained and is being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
