Elderly Dover man killed in Hartly two-vehicle crash

HARTLY, DE – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision that claimed the life of a 77-year-old Dover man Wednesday morning in Hartly.

The crash occurred around 9 a.m. at the intersection of Judith Road and Hartly Road.

Troopers said the man was driving east on Judith Road in a Honda Accord when he entered the intersection and was struck on the driver’s side by a southbound Ford Focus.

Collision under investigation

The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles, and the driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of his family.

The 18-year-old woman driving the Ford, who is from Hartly, was evaluated at the scene and declined transport to the hospital.

Roadway closed for several hours

Hartly Road was shut down for about three hours as investigators documented the crash site and cleared debris. The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the circumstances leading to the collision.

Authorities have not released any indication of impairment or other contributing factors.
